Wrapping your head around consciousness
Wrapping your head around consciousness
Being consciously aware of every thought, feeling, and deed sounds so simplistic. Everyone should just be able to do it. After all if we aren’t in charge of our own minds… Then who is? Early on in my own journey I had a wonderful therapist, full of wisdom and kindness. When I first started seeing him however I thought he was a little simplistic and slightly slow. I learned that simple didn’t mean unintelligent, some of the inteligencia that I hung out with did the dumbest self-defeating acts. And slow was rather efficient, better to slowly create the life you truly wanted than to quickly create a life you didn't.
I would complain that my mind wouldn’t shut off at night and I would just think in circles. He asked me what I thought about. Turns out I was so caught up in thinking myself silly I didn’t really bother to notice the topic of distraction. It took me a few weeks before I could even understand the importance of his probing. “What do you think about when your mind won't shut off?”
I thought he was asking so we could probe my deeper thoughts in therapy. I soon discovered I didn't think about much, but I thought about it from every angle and often. Working myself into a frenzied self defeated state so I couldn't sleep. It was as if my thoughts were in a chariot race and at the helm was a flock of drunken monkeys. The act of thinking in a circle was the distraction. It didn't matter what I was thinking about. Doing it relentlessly at 1 am was a form of self defeatism..
If I had an important thought, I was to wright it down and then go to sleep.
Eventually I could sit still and watch my thoughts without being trapped in them. Allowing me to release or work through them if they were negative and act on them when appropriate. I had huge success and it was a personal turning point.
But 13 years later I still have my mind taken over by drunken monkeys on occasion. It’s during these obsessive thought parades that I have to do what I did back them. Stop, sit still, observe the thoughts, then without judgment release them through active positive thought, prayer, meditation and / or forgiveness.
When I step out of my way, look at the thought being expressed, the underlying theme of FEAR usually comes out. It’s always a fear of some sort.
I mention this because until we face our fears and let go of them our consciousness will never go higher than the fear will allow. Anything we create from a fear perspective will only result in chaos.
The higher we can go in consciousness the easier it is to manifest, create, and change our lives. It may feel like Magik when it happens but really it’s an art and a science. Schools of enlightenment have been teaching detachment and mental discipline in many forms for many centuries. It's nothing new.
Facing our fears and walking through them gives us character that builds our inner strength. It's this inner strength that enables us to perform external strength.
Our outer world is merely a reflection of our inner world. If a person lives in inner fear and chaos they have an exterior chaotic experience. They will either draw it towards them like a magnet or they will unwittingly create it for themselves through a serious of self-defeating choices. But if we face the inner chaos then we can stop it from being created externally.
In order to change our outer existence we must first practice consciousness towards our inner world. This part is simple to explain, yet becomes somewhat challenging to most. Simply watch your thoughts float by without judgment but with discernment. Meaning don’t get emotionally charged or involved with the thought simply look at it with detachment. Is the thought helpful and constructive, or is it critical or demeaning to yourself and/or others? If it’s destructive then explore what underlying fear is motivating it.
If the fear is from lack? Assure yourself that there's always enough and your good is in abundant supply.
If the fear steams from worthiness or entitlement? Then assure yourself that you're worthy and entitled to have a life full of love, acceptance, and abundance.
If the fear is from childhood abuse & betrayal. Then forgive the people who violated you and forgive the people who were supposed to keep you safe and didn't. They either didn't know how love you, or loved you imperfectly. After all they like you are human and fallible. Imagine that you are surrounded by perfect love and then start loving yourself unconditionally.
Forgiveness is releasing and letting go of the idea that the past could have been different. Thus freeing you to move forward.
Whatever the fear, affirm the positive aspect to it, even if at first you don’t really believe it. Walk through the fear by acknowledging, blessing, forgiving and letting go. Your fears will teach you more about your own humanity than any other teacher. Understanding our own individual humanity enables us to have a deeper level of compassion for all of humanity.
YOU ARE MORE POWERFUL THAN ANY FEAR.
“You are more powerful than any fear!” That’s something you will always have to KNOW as a core truth. Once you have this core truth as living consciousness then every block that stands in your way can be over come. If you can not establish this as a core truth then seek professional help until you can.
